Application

Powder coatings for pipeline & heavy-duty corrosion protection

For steel structures and industrial metal parts WANAN proposes E series epoxy (1440 h neutral salt spray, ISO 9227) and EZ series zinc-rich epoxy primer (≥ 2000 h) as documented anti-corrosion candidates. Fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) and three-layer polyethylene (3PE) pipeline coatings are a separate, higher-threshold category: WANAN qualifies dedicated grades against the project standard and line conditions rather than substituting a general industrial epoxy.

Pipeline & heavy-duty corrosion protection

Who this is for

Steel pipe mills, FBE/3PE coating lines, pipe-coating contractors, oil and gas, water and chemical pipeline project supply chains, steel-structure fabricators and industrial anti-corrosion coaters.

What buyers need to solve

  • Pipeline projects must meet specific standards and process windows; general industrial anti-corrosion powders usually cannot substitute directly.
  • Pipe mills and coating lines judge line compatibility, batch stability, impact, cathodic disbondment and media resistance, not salt spray alone.
  • Material introduction on engineering projects is long and needs dedicated TDS, sample-pipe validation and project documentation.
  • Customers sometimes confuse general epoxy powders with FBE/3PE grades, leading to wrong enquiries and wrong quotations.

Candidate series and the logic behind them

Requirement / partCandidateBasis
General industrial anti-corrosion metal partsENeutral salt spray 1440 h (ISO 9227)
Steel structure and heavy-duty primerEZZinc-rich epoxy primer, salt spray ≥ 2000 h
Primer + topcoat system for exposed steelE or EZ + P seriesQualified as a system
FBE / 3PE pipeline projectsDedicated grade per projectQualified against project standard, pipe, pretreatment, preheat and line conditions
Candidates are starting points, not a technical commitment. Final suitability depends on the actual part, pretreatment, film thickness, object temperature, cure conditions, customer specification and line-trial results.

Send the pipeline standard, pipe diameter and material, surface preparation, preheat, application and inspection requirements; WANAN confirms whether a dedicated grade and validation programme are available before any supply commitment.

How the introduction runs. Part, substrate, service environment and line data → candidate series and colour-matched samples → trial panels or production parts on the customer's line → tests in WANAN's CNAS-accredited laboratory (L15415) or per the customer's programme → documentation and release. Frequently asked questions

Can WANAN E or EZ series be used as FBE pipeline coating?

No. E and EZ are general industrial anti-corrosion powders for equipment and structures. FBE and 3PE pipeline systems require dedicated grades with gel time, melt flow, cathodic disbondment, impact and hot-water resistance data qualified against the project standard. WANAN uses E and EZ only for general steel-structure corrosion protection and for identifying requirements; pipeline supply is confirmed through a separate qualification.

What information does WANAN need to evaluate a pipeline project?

The applicable standard, pipe diameter and steel grade, surface preparation, preheat temperature, coating line type and speed, required film thickness, and the inspection and test plan. With these WANAN confirms whether a dedicated grade exists for the project and what sample-pipe validation is required before quotation. Price-only enquiries without process and standard information cannot be evaluated.

Does the CNAS laboratory test pipeline coating properties?

WANAN's testing center is accredited by CNAS (L15415) to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 within the scope listed on the accreditation annex. General coating tests such as adhesion, impact, bend, salt spray and humidity are run in-house; project-specific pipeline tests are performed according to the project standard, in-house where within scope or through third-party laboratories.
